Privacy Policy

How KanadaWorld.CA collects, uses, protects and shares information when you browse, create an account, post, message, review, advertise or manage a business profile.

Last updated September 27, 2026

1. Who is responsible

KanadaWorld is responsible for personal information under its control. We have designated a privacy contact who is accountable for our compliance with this policy and with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and its fair information principles. You can reach them at info@kanadaworld.ca.

This policy applies to information processed through the KanadaWorld.CA website, mobile app and related features. It does not cover third-party websites you reach through links on the platform, including business websites.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use the platform, we collect:

  • Account details — your name or display name, email address, account type (individual or business), sign-in information, and a phone number and short bio if you choose to add them.
  • Google or Facebook sign-in — if you choose to continue with Google, we receive your name, email address, profile photo and an account identifier. If you continue with Facebook, we receive only your public profile — your name, profile photo and an app-specific account identifier — and ask you to confirm a contact email with us directly. We never receive your Google or Facebook password, and we do not post anything to those accounts. See section 20.
  • Content you post — listings, business-profile content, photos, messages, saved searches and reviews.
  • Payment information — see section 5. We never store your card details.
  • Location — see section 6.
  • Device and technical information — browser and device type, push notification tokens if you opt in, and technical logs used for security and reliability.
  • Security signals — to limit spam and abuse on sign-up and public forms, we derive a one-way scrambled (hashed) code from your network address and browser. We never store your raw IP address for this purpose, and these records are deleted within 24 hours.
  • Moderation records — reports you make or that are made about your content, and the decisions taken.

We collect only what we reasonably need for the purposes in section 3. Passwords are stored only as a salted one-way hash; nobody at KanadaWorld.CA can read your password.

3. Why we collect it

We identify our purposes at or before the time we collect information. We use information to:

  • Provide accounts, listings, search, messaging, reviews, the Business Centre and advertising.
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, spam and security incidents.
  • Moderate content and respond to reports.
  • Improve reliability, usability and marketplace discovery.
  • Send service messages (such as email verification, password resets, receipts and replies to your listings), and newsletters or push notifications you have opted in to.
  • Process payments for advertising, promotions and business plans, and take and hold payments for orders placed with businesses on the site.
  • Meet legal, tax and record-keeping obligations.

We will not use your information for a new purpose without first identifying that purpose and, where required, asking for your consent.

4. Consent

We ask for your consent when you create an account, and you can see what we collect in section 2. Some consent is express — for example, subscribing to the newsletter, turning on push notifications or sharing your location. Some is implied by what you choose to do — for example, publishing a listing makes it visible to the public.

You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual limits, by changing your settings, unsubscribing, or emailing info@kanadaworld.ca. We will tell you if withdrawing consent means we can no longer provide a feature.

5. Payments

KanadaWorld.CA charges for its own services — advertising, promotions and business plans — and also takes payment on behalf of businesses selling through the site. Payments are handled by Stripe through a secure payment form shown on our site. Your card details go directly to Stripe and are never seen or stored by KanadaWorld.CA. Stripe may use your billing address to calculate applicable sales tax. Stripe's handling of your information is governed by its own privacy policy.

If you buy from a business on the site. We keep a record of the order: what you bought, the amount, the payment status, any note you added for the seller, and when you confirmed the order or reported a problem. The business is told your name, your order and anything you wrote for them, so they can fulfil it — never your card details. Where an order is disputed we may share the relevant order details with the business, and with Stripe or your card issuer where a chargeback requires it.

If you sell through the site. Before a business can be paid out, Stripe collects the identity and banking information that Canadian anti-money-laundering law requires — the legal name, date of birth and address of the people behind the business, a business number where one applies, and a bank account. That information is collected in a Stripe form shown on our page and goes to Stripe, which verifies it as the financial institution; KanadaWorld.CA does not receive or store your identity documents or bank account number. We hold the resulting status (whether you are cleared to be paid, and what is outstanding), your payout amounts, and the orders behind them.

6. Location

If you choose to share your location, we use your approximate location or city to show distances and nearby results. You can use the site without sharing it, and you can turn location access off in your browser or device settings at any time.

Business addresses are converted (geocoded) to map coordinates so businesses can appear in nearby and map searches.

7. Automated safety checks

To protect users from scams, we run automated checks on new listings and on messages sent through the platform — for example, looking for requests to pay by gift card, cryptocurrency or wire transfer. A check may block a message, hold a listing for review, or flag it to our moderators. These checks do not make final decisions about your account: a person reviews any account-level action, and you can ask us to review a decision by emailing info@kanadaworld.ca.

8. Push notifications and newsletter

Push notifications. If you turn on push notifications, we store a device token so we can send them to your device. You can turn them off at any time in your device or browser settings, which stops further notifications.

Newsletter. If you subscribe, we use your email address to send the newsletter. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. Commercial messages follow Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

9. Business Centre profiles

Some business profiles in our Business Centre are compiled from publicly available sources. These profiles contain business information only: the business name, address, and the public business phone number, email address and website.

If you own a listed business, you can claim the profile, correct it, or ask us to remove it by emailing info@kanadaworld.ca.

10. Reviews and profile statistics

Reviews are public. They are shown on the business profile with the reviewer's display name, along with the star rating and any reply from the business.

Profile statistics. We count views of and clicks on business profiles, and show business owners these counts in aggregate. No individual visitor is identified to the business.

11. Sharing

Information you choose to publish — listings, business profiles and reviews — is visible to other users and may be indexed by search engines. Your email address and phone number are never shown on your listings; buyers contact you through on-platform messaging unless you choose to share your details.

We share information with service providers that help us run the service, such as hosting, payment processing (Stripe), email delivery and push notifications. They may use it only to provide their services to us and must protect it. We may also disclose information when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect people, property or the service. We do not sell your personal information.

12. Storage outside Canada

Our service providers, including our hosting, payment and email providers, may process and store information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information stored in another country is subject to that country's laws and may be accessible to its courts and authorities.

13. How long we keep it

  • Your account and content — while your account is open. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except what we must keep.
  • Payment records — as long as tax law requires, generally six years.
  • Sign-in sessions — deleted after they expire.
  • Security and rate-limit records — deleted within 24 hours.
  • Password-reset and verification links — expire quickly and are deleted within 7 days.
  • Moderation records — as long as needed to keep the platform safe and handle disputes.

14. Security and breaches

We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, access limited to authorized administrators, and an audit log of administrative actions. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

If a breach of security safeguards involving your personal information creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and report it to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as PIPEDA requires, and keep a record of it.

15. Your rights

You can ask to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you, and learn how it has been used and to whom it has been disclosed.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete. You can edit most details yourself in your profile.
  • Withdraw your consent to a use of your information, as described in section 4.
  • Delete your account and personal information, subject to anything we must keep by law. You can start deletion while signed in from Profile & account, or use our public account deletion page if you no longer have access to your account.

Email your request to info@kanadaworld.ca. We may need to confirm your identity before responding. We will respond within 30 days, free of charge, or tell you if we need more time and why, as PIPEDA allows.

16. Complaints

If you have a concern about how we handle your information, email info@kanadaworld.ca first and we will investigate and try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.

17. Children

KanadaWorld.CA is not intended for children who are below the minimum age permitted to use the service in their jurisdiction (see our Terms of Use). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us information, email info@kanadaworld.ca and we will delete it.

18. Cookies

How we use cookies and local storage is explained in our Cookie Policy.

19. Policy changes

We may update this policy when our practices, features or legal obligations change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised date, and we will notify account holders by email of significant changes.

20. Google and Facebook sign-in, and deleting that data

Signing in with Google or Facebook is optional. We use the information they share (see section 2) only to create and secure your KanadaWorld.CA account; for Google, if an account with the same verified email already exists, the two are linked.

To remove this data: you can disconnect KanadaWorld.CA at any time in your Google Account (Security → Third-party apps) or in Facebook (Settings → Apps and websites). When you remove us in Facebook, Facebook notifies us and we delete the Facebook link and any Facebook profile photo we stored. Step-by-step instructions are on our data deletion page. To delete your KanadaWorld.CA account and the information we received, use the account deletion page or the in-app deletion control. We may ask you to verify ownership, and we retain only records we must keep by law or for legitimate safety, fraud, dispute or tax purposes.

21. Trowit courier applicants and deliveries

What we collect. A courier application includes name, phone, vehicle type and carrying limits. Verification adds primary residential address and, for motorized couriers, licence, registration, insurance and vehicle details and uploaded documents. Stripe processes an identity document and selfie for its identity check; we receive a verification status and reference. We record the version and time of your acceptance of the Driver Terms and this policy.

Why and with whom. We use these details to assess eligibility, match offers, verify documents, support deliveries, respond to incidents and prevent fraud. Authorized administrators review the vehicle documents. Stripe handles identity verification; hosting and storage providers handle the data under our instructions. For an accepted delivery, relevant pickup, dropoff, status and location information may be shown to dispatch, the business and the recipient for fulfilment and tracking. A courier's private residential address and identity documents are not shown to buyers or businesses.

Location and control. With permission, your device sends location while you are Available or on a delivery and the Trowit page is open. Going Offline stops new offers and ongoing availability tracking; delivery event and route records already collected may remain for support, safety, disputes and legal obligations. Turn off permission in device settings to stop further location collection, though you cannot stay available without it.

Retention and rights. We retain application, verification and delivery records only while needed for eligibility, safety, disputes and applicable legal obligations, then delete or anonymize them according to our retention procedures. Ask info@kanadaworld.ca to access, correct or request deletion of your courier information, subject to records we must retain. See the Driver Terms & Disclosures before applying.
